Utilize Media and Materials
Preview Materials:
- Teacher should review blog postings to be sure that information is accurate.
- Teacher should review all links to be sure that links are still available for student viewing.
Prepare Materials:
- Teacher should have PowerPoint slides ready to be published on Slide Share and the teacher's blog.
- Teacher should have all other blog posting ready to be published on the teacher's blog.
- Teacher should have an example of a final product.
- Teacher should have all students’ e-mail addresses before the beginning of this lesson.
Prepare Environment: Takes place throughout the three week lesson plan
- Be sure that students know to check the teacher’s blog for these weeks of instruction.
- Be sure that students know their group mates.
- Post the following blogs: “Choosing Topics and Tools,” “Project Expectations and Rubric,” “The Demonstrative Speech,” “Examples of Demonstrative Speeches,” “Peer Review Etiquette,” and “The Wrap Up.”
Prepare Learners:
- Remind students that they should have already signed up for an e-mail address, as well as a Google blog account.
- On the first day, take the first fifteen minutes of class to tell students their group members and their task:
Group 1: John, Marv, and Sara
Group 2: Glenn, Mary, and Pia
Group 3: Austin, Melinda, and Nicole
Group 4:Eric, May, and Audrey
Group 5: Jason, Matthew, and Rob
Group 6: Ken, Jonah, and Jackie
Group 7: Mario, Tony, and Jen
Group 8: Pete, Regina, and Leonora
- Remind students that this lesson will be done entirely online and they should therefore prepare accordingly.
- Provide online lessons on blog to prepare students to create their own demonstrative speeches with their groups.
Provide the Learning Experience:
- Students will get into their groups to discuss their topic, exchange contact information, and meeting dates.
- Teacher will post blogs accordingly.
- Students will decide on a demonstrative speech topic and inform the teacher when instructed to via teacher’s blog.
- Students will send teacher an e-mail of a speech script and tools they intend on using.
- Teacher will then edit the draft and students will correct and resubmit speech scripts via e-mail.
- Students will film and edit their demonstrative speeches.
- Students will post their speeches on their blogs and inform instructor that they have been posted via e-mail.
- Teacher will then proceed to grade and report to students what blogs to critique the speeches at.
- Students will view all the group speeches and critique the speeches.
- Students will then assess their own group members.
- Instructor will provide concluding remarks and teacher will send students an e-mail of their grades and finished rubrics.
